Biography:

Romijn (pronounced “Ro-mane”) was born in Berkeley, California, to Jaap Romijn and Elizabeth Kuizenga, both of whom are of Dutch ancestry. Her friends nicknamed her “the jolly blonde giant” because her height is just under 6 feet.
While studying music (voice) at the University of California, Santa Cruz, she became involved with modeling and eventually moved to Paris, France for more than two years. Among other jobs, Romijn modeled for the swimsuit issue of Sports Illustrated and for Victoria’s Secret. She also was the host of MTV’s House of Style from 1998 to 2000. Romijn is fluent in French and Portuguese.
Once a college student who was born to hippie parents, Rebecca’s fashion sense did not go further than her Birkenstock sandals. Now, the only Birks she’s wearing are on her fingers, earlobes and neckline.
In 1995, Rebecca attended UC Santa Cruz and majored in music. A struggling student, Rebecca decided to sign up with a San Francisco modeling agency to help pay the bills. In a mere two months and almost instantaneously, Rebecca made the move from college student to glamorous runway model.
Not necessarily wanting to pursue a modeling career (the world of high fashion intimidated her), Rebecca took time off from her studies to work as a full-time model. In no time, she already had contracts with major league fashion houses such as Christian Dior and Escada.
In 1996, she became one of the beautiful women to grace the pages of the much-loved Victoria’s Secret catalogues. She also became the fantasy girl in Miller Light’s advertising campaign, and can also be seen showing off her milk moustache in a Got Milk? advertising campaign, a campaign that also shows model Tyra Banks, and Friends stars Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow donning a milk moustache.
As if Rebecca needed even more reassurance for her stunning appearance, she was featured in People magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People” for 1997, who claimed that her addition to the 50 Most Beautiful was not because of her looks, but for her sense of humor about her body and her profession.

Rebecca was also featured in the 1996 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, and has practically become a staple in the magazine’s issue. In 1999, she graced the cover of the magazine with a painted-on swimsuit.

As for her acting career, Rebecca has appeared in popular sitcoms such as Friends and Just Shoot Me. She has also become the host of MTV’s House of Style, and sometimes shares co-hosting duties with model James King . Rebecca was no stranger to being the host of a television show; she was a temporary host for NBC’s late night show, Later.
Rebecca had a cameo appearance in last summer’s Austin Powers sequel, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. One might ask what is with Rebecca and body paint. Not only did a 1997 cover for GQ show Rebecca in a bikini bottom with Dennis Rodman’s hands painted on her chest, but Rebecca’s costume in this summer’s blockbuster X-Men, co-starring Halle Berry and Famke Janssen, is mostly made of body paint. As the mutant Mystique, Rebecca is sure to mystify audiences, without even saying a word.
In 2000′s X-Men, Romijn had her first major movie role as “Mystique”; she returned to the role in 2003′s sequel X2: X-Men United, and again for X-Men: The Last Stand (2006). In these movies her costume consisted of blue makeup and some strategically placed prosthetics on her otherwise nude body. In X2: X-Men United she shows up in a bar in one scene in her “normal” look, and also in X-Men: The Last Stand.

She had her first leading role in Brian De Palma’s Femme Fatale (2002). She also has starred in movies such as Rollerball, The Punisher and Godsend.

She played the leading role in Pepper Dennis, a TV series on The WB. This series showcased Romijn’s talents for comedy, singing, modeling, drama, and adventure.
Personal life

Rebecca attended the University of California at Santa Cruz in 1990–91 where she lived in dorm 1 at Stevenson College. She studied music and participated in the dorm talent show, singing a musical comedy routine with a high school friend who joined her at UCSC. During the summer following her freshman year, Rebecca began her career modelling and did not return for her sophomore year.

She married actor John Stamos on September 19, 1998. During her marriage, she used the name Rebecca Romijn-Stamos in both her personal and professional life. The couple announced their separation on April 12, 2004, and divorced on March 1, 2005. She has since returned to using her birth name.

Romijn was asked by Elle magazine in April 2002 whether making Femme Fatale had given her any new ideas about her sexuality. She said, “You know, in my early twenties I wondered if I was interested in women and so I kind of, well … did my homework. [Grins] And it turns out I’m pretty straight”.

From November 2004 until January 2005, Rebecca dated actor Jason Bateman who she met while on TV set for Arrested Development.

On September 19, 2005, Rebecca announced her engagement to actor Jerry O’Connell. They were married on their ranch in Southern California on July 14, 2007.

On July 28, 2008, it was announced that Romijn was pregnant. According to Us Weekly magazine,[15] she and O’Connell were expecting twins due in the winter. People magazine reported that the babies were girls, conceived without the assistance of fertility drugs. Romijn and O’Connell welcomed twin daughters Dolly Rebecca Rose and Charlie Tamara Tulip on December 28, 2008. Dolly is for Dolly Parton, Charlie is for Jerry’s brother, and Tamara is for Rebecca’s sister.

Romijn will star in the upcoming ABC series Eastwick, reuniting her with her former Pepper Dennis co-star, Lindsay Price.
